What belongs on a handyman invoice

Each task on its own line

Handyman visits cover several unrelated jobs. One line reading “repairs” invites a challenge; four lines naming the door, the faucet, the drywall and the shelf do not.

Hours actually worked

Show the hours and the rate rather than a round total. Customers accept 3 hours at $75 far more readily than a flat $225 with no explanation.

Materials and any markup

State your markup policy openly on the invoice. Discovering it later feels like a hidden charge even when the percentage is entirely normal.

Trip or minimum charge

If you have a minimum, show it. A twenty-minute job billed at a one-hour minimum reads as a rip-off unless the minimum is stated on the page.

Work you recommended

Note the jobs the customer mentioned but did not book. It is the cheapest source of repeat work you have, and it is already in front of them.

What you are not licensed for

Be clear where a job needs a licensed electrician or plumber. Declining in writing protects you and, oddly, tends to build trust rather than lose the job.

Tired of retyping this every job?

This template is fine for the occasional invoice. Once you are sending them every week, the retyping is the job — customer details, rates, invoice numbers, chasing who has paid. Daily Invoice Maker keeps your customers and rates on file, numbers invoices for you, and emails a finished PDF in a few clicks. It runs 100% offline on Windows and Mac, and it is $149.95 once — no subscription.

Questions

Is this handyman invoice template free?

Yes — free and unlimited, with no signup and nothing to download. Fill it in here and print or save it as a PDF.

How should I bill multiple small jobs?

Give each task its own line with its own hours. A single “repairs” line is the most disputed way to bill a handyman visit; itemised tasks are the least.

Should I show my materials markup?

Yes. A stated markup is a normal business practice. An unstated one that the customer works out later feels like a hidden charge and costs you the repeat booking.

Is my information stored?

No. Nothing is saved or transmitted — the page only holds what you type until the tab closes, so print or save the PDF.

What if I do several jobs a day?

Retyping customers and rates is the bottleneck. Daily Invoice Maker keeps them on file, works offline from a van, and is a one-time $149.95 with no subscription.
